Epilogue

“If I were to go back and do it all over again, I’d do everything the same,” I smiled over at my new husband, though he stared straight out the windshield at the choked streets of South Central Los Angeles.

“Good.” He stretched his long arm over my shoulders and pulled me towards him, I scooted across the bench seat as far as my seatbelt allowed. I pressed my body against his side and exhaled with my lips to his neck. His knuckles on the steering wheel turned white for a moment, as they had three months before when we were racing down to Albuquerque for an appointment with Death.

I gazed up at my new husband’s face, and I knew his thoughts were on Gabriel.
